The Barbaras

The Barbaras hail from Elvis-country, Tennessee and their greased-up, leather and denim, pink cadillac pop ditties couldn’t be better placed. Check out “Summertime Road”, where they deck out their roughshod brand of Spector-on-a-shoe-string, thick and smokey production and deep-fried, diner-shaking trebly guitar twang with lashings of joyful, hiccuping coo and response falcettos and a whole load of  summer-smitten, head out the car window, open freeway woo-woo-woo-ing. All of which confirms them in our hearts as some of our favourite Barbaras, joining the esteemed ranks of Barbaras Windsor, Sinatra (late widow of Frank) and Saint Barbara (lived in the 3rd Century A.D., embraced Christianity against her nark of a Father’s will and was killed for her beliefs. Bummer.)
