Onsite facilities include a cinema (with films picked by your curators and ATP!), Ten-pin bowling and amusement arcade. Sports include Archery, Football, Basketball, Darts, Petanque, Fencing, Kwik Cricket, Netball, Rounders, Table Tennis, Outdoor Bowls and Crazy Golf (some of these are subject to availability). Also Splash Water world; probably the largest water fun centre in the southwest of England, Splash Water World has a huge wave pool, a swimming pool, 3 flumes, from a fairly sedate flume to the almighty space bowl, where you exit the flume at 40mph in to a bowl and when your momentum reduces, drop in to a 2m deep plunge tank. Also there is the Master Blaster - a flume based raft ride. Add to this the bubble pools and put it all in to a sub-tropical environment with rock stars.

Da dio
“God Is Saying This To You”, the new record by Kurt Vile out on Mexican Summer has been suffering some serious wear and tear on my stereo as of late and I almost feel bad about it because for all Kurt’s ultra-macho, badass moniker and ardent lo-fi sensibility, this record has a real unsinkable heart of gold beating in its chest. “So you want to marry me, well you’ve got my sympathy”, Kurt drawls with the kind of blue bar-stool self-effacement that follows the trail of girlfriends past and rosier time’s hope lost doggedly but always ends up at the bottom of a pint glass. One can only assume Kurt’s seen a fair few of those too, this record is a sometimes slurring, rag-tag affair but is all the better for it, Kurt’s tender wailing carrying a kind of red-cheeked ruddy romance that is impossible to deny as he loses friends and gets lost and chases those ghosts tired.
Perhaps it is he that is the ghost though, the record’s production often means he’s a long way away, a sad, wry voice drifting through the toilet cubicle of your consciousness for a minute or so at a time before dying like a dream again. If Kurt is right and it really is “God That Is Saying This To You”, what he’s saying probably never made the holy scripture and he himself is a far more human, fallible and pained God than you’re likely to encounter in your everyday Church service or burning bush or sacred vegetable cutting. For this I am glad.
The solid copies of the LP are nearly gone but you may be able to get your hands on one through Mexican Summer if you don’t sleep on it.
Welcome to Turnstile.net, the cosy online home of Turnstile Music. We hope to use this tidy little corner of the internet as a space to upload as much content as possible regarding all our artists and their work as well as to wax lyrical about all the other things we love. Although at the moment this basically boils down to Brian Clough, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart and Darts we’ll endeavour to keep it a little more varied than that as time goes on.
Thought it could be a good ice-breaker to do a post introducing our roster so far and explaining why it is we love them so, so er, here it is:
GIRLS
Girls are a San Francisco outfit based around the powerful, sad and pure songwriting of Christopher Owens and the ethereal and haunting production of Chet Jr White. The songs that make up their forthcoming LP, written in all night sessions sandwiched inbetween daydreaming shifts on the reception desk of a local hotel, are at once classicist and innovative, strutting and vulnerable, heartbroken and triumphant, intensely personal and effortlessly universal. In short, pop music’s great promise come good.
PERFUME GENIUS
We fell in love with Perfume Genius the moment we stumbled across him floating around in his singular and strange universe and are delighted to be able to pull at least a little bit of him into Turnstile’s own. Perfume Genius’s songs, wonderfully poetic, sparse and haunting are a fully formed world in in themselves - PG’s heartbreakingly vulnerable vocals sketching tales of tragic and brilliant characters that are sometimes bursting with hope, other times truly disturbing and beautiful always and forever.
Perfume Genius is currently readying his debut LP. We’re preparing to have our lives saved by it.
VIDEO NASTIES
Video Nasties are a London based band that in the last year or so have been busy, holed away in a shed making one of the best debut records we’ve ever heard. On All Fours, is an inspiring, sucker-punching work of perfectly played contradictions. It’s a record that is real, believable, human: fearfully aggressive yet subtlely graceful - at times manic, yet often really quite serene and ethereal - as assured as it is vulnerable. What remains constant throughout however, coursing through the record’s veins, is a completely intuitive and timeless melodic streak that make these songs unforgettable and On All Fours a truly important release.
On All Fours is released on April 13th. Check our Label section for details on Release Party Shows and their UK tour.
SWANTON BOMBS
Just being named after Jeff Hardy of World Wrestling Entertainment esteem’s finishing move would be enough to confim Swanton Bombs as one of our favourite new bands in the world, so the fact that they an almost effortless knack for penning the most abrasive, artful and brave bastardised pop songs full of life and love and fear and joy and some of the best drumming you could ever wish to hear means you can safely assume we’re delighted to be putting their records out.
Swanton Bombs’ first LP, Smoke Over Swanton is available now for free from their Myspace. Their second, full length release is due for late 2009.
