Today, the Manchester-born, Liverpool-based songstress, MiNNETONKA, shares her brand new single, ‘We Fight Fires’, released on 27th May 2016 via War Room Records.
‘We Fight Fires’ was co-written and produced by Bill Ryder-Jones and is her first new release of 2016, following her debut single, ‘Birds Of Prey’ late last year.
The beautiful, intimate and haunting track deals with the breakdown of a romantic relationship. MiNNETONKA said the following about it: 'This is probably the most open I've ever been in a song – it contains some of my most private, personal thoughts. I’m not normally much of a talker about these things, but I was in a place where I couldn’t not write the song; I was at a certain point in my life and it was therapeutic. Saying that it was probably the easiest song I've ever written as well...’
“This song genuinely came to me in a daydream whilst I was trying to tune in my faulty DAB radio. I heard a snippet of news about this badly timed referendum on staying in/leaving the EU and suddenly it hit me hard how much I'd miss it if the UK managed inexplicably to kick itself out. It's basically just an attempt to make an emotional case for Mother Europe - this flawed, fantastic, potentially Utopian mega-club that I've been lucky enough to grow up in.”
I Love EU is available from April 22nd. There is no planned physical release – just this one-off piece of music available via all the usual online platforms. If you agree with any of the sentiments embodied in this song, please help spread the message by sharing on all social media platforms (using the hashtag #iloveEU).

Ahead of Friday's release of Cate's new album 'Crab Day' you can watch the film of the album, the work of Turner Prize nominated artists Phil Collins, right now.
Cate says: “My desire was not to work with any artist on visuals for Crab Day, but to work with Phil. He creates a landscape that is anarchic and wide-open through careful consideration and exploration. There is no map. It is an empowering isolation that fills me up when I see his work. It's beautiful, strange and inescapably human. To have him take Crab Day and reimagine it as a visual piece is an absolute honor. No stone was left unturned and the friendship that we have fostered over the years was the anchor of the collaboration. He has made a coat that we can both wear. "
We are very excited to announce that Sea Lion, aka Linn Osterberg, will be touring Spain and Portual for the very first time.
During their SXSW visit, alongside 2 excellent shows, Franky Flowers played a session for 6Music's Lamacq Show. If you missed it live on the airwaves, you're in luck, as you can have a listen again, right here.
We're just a few weeks away from the release of Cate Le Bon's brilliant new album Crab Day (out worldwide on April 15), and you can get the lowdown on it, and all things Cate, by grabbing the latest issue of Uncut Magazine, which features a 5-page feature on Cate and an 8/10 review for the new LP.
Having just finished a UK jaunt, Martha Ffion has announced another brief run of shows in England and Scotland for May.
